Widower, 87, commits suicide in central Tucson clinic

A recently widowed 87-year-old man committed suicide in the lobby of a medical clinic this morning after learning there were no appointments available.
The man had gone to the clinic for treatment on Wednesday, but returned on Thursday around 11:43 a.m. to be seen again, said Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
The man was told there were no openings at which time he walked out to his car, Pacheco said.
The man got a handgun, went back inside, sat down in a chair and shot himself in the head, Pacheco said.
Eight employees and two patients were in the clinic, located at 3920 N. Campbell Avenue. The patients were being treated in the back.
The name of the man was not released and it is unclear what sort of treatment he was seeking.

*the dr's office next door isn't even a psychologist office or anything...it's a gastroenterologist clinic (for the digestive system). and yes, our office wall backs up to the wall in their lobby where this happened.

needless to say i've felt pretty eerie all day. the man's car was parked right in front of our office and i watched the tow truck take it away, the cops come and tape up that office as a crime scene, and the cleaning crew come in for hours (they were still there as i was leaving work tonight).

so thank you labor day weekend. i'll be enjoying you for the next 4 1/2 days starting right now. you couldn't have come at a better time.
